Chalkboard Paint
Turn a section of wall into a chalk board for writing down notes for the day, or helping with the kids homework. Chalkboard paint comes in green or black. Great for a kids bedroom , kitchen or back door note board.
Application of chalkboard paint
It is best to start with a smooth surface. If you are applying the paint to a previously painted surface, there will be roller texture that you may want to smooth out for best results. (you don’t have to do this, but the “chalkboard” will be bumpy.
To start with a smooth surface, you will need to skim coat the selected area with either spackle or drywall compound.. Skim the area twice, then sand it smooth, and remove the dust with a vacuum or micro fiber tack cloth. See Dust - Free Drywall Compound Sanding
Prime the skimmed over area with primer (oil primer is best, but a PVA latex drywall primer will do).
Outline the wall with a pencil, the area that will become your chalk board. If you are going to install a frame, do that after the paint is down.
Apply the paint with a short nap roller (don’t use a brush, unless you have to) for best uniformity and smoothness. You will need to apply two coats (minimum).
