EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting Program Rule
the
RRP Rule
The Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule Requires each contractor working on "target housing" (pre-1978 residential homes and child care facilities), to use the prescribed lead safe work practices outlined in the Certified Renovator course approved by the EPA.

Certain supplies are now a necessity to have on the truck and ready for use such as: a HEPA Vacuum (along with the required "beater bar" for carpet cleaning),  wet wipes, a wet mop system for hard floors.  Caution barricade tape, cones, and signs for marking the work area.  Plastic sheeting is required for covering the ground (exteriors) or floor (interior renovations).

Containment

ZipWall
Containment Barrier System

  • Install in minutes
  • contain dust and debris
  • flexible system - adapts to different ceiling heights and scenarios
  • doesn't take up too much room in the truck

Contain the dust and make the work area as small as possible.  Less dust spread = less contamination and easier cleanup.   Confine the work area with a Zipwall dust enclosure.

Zipwall Barrier Systems
A major part of the RRP Rule is proper cleanup. A  HEPA vacuum is the only type of vacuum allowed for vacuum clean up.

Certifed HEPA rated vacuum system meets EPA requirements for lead-safe certification

RRP Rule Definition:

"HEPA vacuum means a vacuum cleaner which has been designed with a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter as the last filtration stage."

"A HEPA filter is a filter that is capable of capturing particles of 0.3 microns with 99.97% efficiency. The vacuum cleaner must be designed so that all the air drawn into the machine is expelled through the HEPA filter with none of the air leaking past it."
