Faux Finishes and Interior Painting
Faux Painting adds a unique and personal touch to interior decorating. Customize a finish specifically for your own house using your colors and designed for your decorating taste and style.
There is a lot of variety to choose from in the world of faux finishes. From subtle to bold there is a faux finish for everyone.
Ragging is a mottled wall finish. The technique can be done in a "negative" manner - called "ragging off" or in a positive manner - called "ragging on".
Ragging is done with (of course) a rag. With positive application, the rag is dipped into the paint / glaze and after blotting off the excess, applied to the wall in a pat and scoot method. Advantages of positive ragging are ease of application. With positive application you don't need to worry about lap marks and you can stop and start at will. This type of application works well in any room, but is particularly useful in rooms with high ceilings.
Negative ragging on the other hand is very subtle and has a soft formal look to it. Negative ragging is done with just one color of paint / glaze, but because of the transparency of the glaze and the interaction of the glaze with the base coat, a full range of hues are commonly visible in the negative rag technique.

Enameling: The best enamels today are either non-yellowing or resistant to yellowing and have good leveling properties. Whether applied with a brush or sprayed, enamel must go on smoothly without brush marks and have that "sprayed on" look regardless of application method.
Surface preparation is critical for all enamel work. Clean, dull and dry, the universal surface preparation motto.
Cleaning. Either with a solvent or detergent to remove surface contamination.
Dulling: Sanding or deglossing with a chemical deglosser to ensure proper adhesion for the enamel finish paint
The enamel work of a painter says much about a painter's capabilities.
Interior Painting using the best materials and with pride in workmanship along with skill acquired from years of painting experience make for a winning combination and customer satisfaction.
Paint brands: Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore.
Paint lines: Superpaint, Duration, Regal and Promar.

Did you know?
Lead paint was not banned until 1978, therefore homes built prior to 1978 require extra care and precaution to avoid disturbing underlying paint. Proper cleanup is important as well as good work practices in these homes.
That drywall sanding dust can be minimized if not virtually eliminated with the use of a HEPA vacuum filter and a sanding attachment. Gone are the old days of migrating dust floating all through the house with inefficient containment and the advent of the HEPA filter.
Faux finishes don’t really cost that much more than a two coat paint job, are much cheaper than wallpaper (if hanging and removal costs are factored), and can be done in almost any color to fit any décor.
Wood staining and wood finishing are often under finished. If you want a smooth furniture-like finish, it will require more than one coat of varnish. A extra touch can be added by rubbing out the finish at the end with a bit of furniture wax added for a slick, smooth finish.
Wallpaper removal is possible if approached in a systematic fashion. Before perforating the paper see if it will "dry strip" leaving only the paper backing to be soaked off. If not, try soaking the wallpaper with removal solution not just once but twice. Soak and allow to sit for ten or twenty minutes, then re-soak prior to attempting to remover the wallcovering. If this doesn't work then perforating with a perforating tool may work by allowing the removal solution to get behind the wallpaper facing to the glue behind it.
