Wallpaper Removal: There are two primary methods for stripping wallpaper: steaming or chemical removal.
Wet Removal
Wet wallpaper removal requires a good stripper solution and a stiff spackle blade and either a pump type sprayer or a standard roller (as with gel removers). Dif wallpaper remover (Zinsser), comes in the gel or standard liquid variety. When using the wet removal method, you need to turn the power off to the room and mask off the electrical outlets with duct tape. Then spray on the remover with a pump sprayer, or roll on the gel remover with a roller. Allow the solution to soak for 15 minutes and re-apply before removing with a spackle blade. See Wallpaper Removal for more detailed instruction.

Wallpaper Steamers
There is no need to rent a wallpaper steamer anymore, you can purchase an inexpensive steamer for under $100. Small DIY’er models are lightweight and easy to operate. These electric wallpaper steamers heat up tap water inside a small reservoir to produce steam which softens the adhesive, enabling removal of the wallpaper. Steaming off wallpaper will usually work even when chemical removal efforts don‘t work so well. Reliable, but a little slower than chemical removal is some cases.
